Flowers of the Commonwealth, Iochdar Primary South Uist
June 26, 2014
It has been fantastic to continue working in rural schools, this time on the isle of South Uist, at Iochar Primary school. The pupils were keen to begin their artwork and began looking at Flowers of the Commonwealth countries and discussing the Games to be held in Glasgow the following month.
The pupils made beautiful botanical drawing and collages before beginning their textile work. Selecting from a range of Asian fabrics, cotton prints, felt, and wollen fabrics the pupils created their own textile patch depicting their chosen plant.
Additional work is currently being created in mainstream and additional support needs schools across Scotland, supported by Project Ability artists.
All the patches will be sewn together once all the schools workshops are completed.
